Oki my friends! I have put together a day of school work for the students. Watch the first story from Mayor Nenshi. All the assignments today are connected to the first book he reads: They All Saw a Cat
If your child has a notebook at home, please have them use it and when we see each other again, they can hand it in to me.

Writing Prompt
In this story a cat goes on a walk. Different animals encounter him and see him from a different perspective.
Imagine you are a cat (are you an indoor cat or an outdoor cat?).
What would you see, hear, smell, touch and taste that would interest you? Write about what you see.
You can use this sentence to get you started on your writing.
I am a cute and adorable cat. I can hear...
Part 2
Math Word Problem:
- A cat saw 5 mice in a field on Monday,
- 6 mice in the field on Tuesday,
- 7 mice in the field on Wednesday.
- How many mice did the cat see from Monday to Wednesday? (If you can, up the challenge, change the numbers to 50, 60 and 70)
- Look for the pattern. How many mice will the cat see by Friday?
Bonus: In one week (7 days), how many mice will the cat see in all?

This week we sorted th, wh, sh, ch. During reading time on Friday, students searched for words with these sounds. You can support your child at home by helping them find words in their books with these sounds!

Fall Math Skills - October 2019
Room 31 is reviewing place value. We're playing some fun math games like 'Race to 100'. Also, students are using place value to show two-digit addition and subtraction.
Counting is key to math understanding. We're practicing counting by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s forward and backwards to 100! In October and November we'll look at number patterns that increase and decrease. These patterns are important for problem solving and will help students with multiplication and division. Examples of Patterns Students will Solve What is the growing pattern rule? 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19 What comes next? Extend the pattern three more times. What number did you land on? What is the decreasing pattern rule? 25, 23, 21, 19, 17, 15, 13 What comes next? Extend the pattern three more times. What number did you land on? Click the button below for a math video that is available in Blackfoot, Cree and English! Hint, the answer is a growing pattern :) |
Mental Math (solving math problems in your head) is an important skill. Students have been practicing 'counting on' and 'counting back'. We've played the Blackfoot stick game to practice quick and accurate adding.
